Professor Lorraine Hanlon
Lorraine is Full Professor of Astronomy at University College Dublin (UCD) and Director of UCD’s Centre for Space Research. Her main research interests are in high-energy astrophysics, gamma-ray bursts, multi-messenger astronomy, robotic telescopes, and space instrumentation. She is the Endorsing Professor for EIRSAT-1, Ireland’s first satellite, that was launched on December 1st 2023 after 6 years of development by an interdisciplinary team of UCD students and staff with the support of ESA’s ‘Fly Your Satellite!’ programme. EIRSAT-1 is currently orbiting Earth at about 27,500 km/hr.
