Newport Astronomy Club talk
If you are feeling enthusiastic about astronomy after our Mayo Dark Sky Festival last weekend, then why not join Newport Astronomy Club on Tuesday at 8pm for the next free talk:
"A Beginner's Guide to Astronomy"
with recently elected club chair Peter Nugent.
Peter, a native of County Tyrone, has had an interest in space, and spaceflight, since he was a small child growing up in the shade of the Clogher Valley where he was able to enjoy dark skies throughout his formative years. After spending some time abroad, Peter returned to Ireland, acquired a telescope, and made his way to Newport because he had heard of the significant local efforts being made to maintain and improve access to dark skies for its inhabitants!
Peter hopes to ignite the same passion he has, in young and old alike, for the wonder and joy in the Universe that a grasp on astronomy can bring along with his belief that dark skies are an important common heritage of humanity that should be free to be enjoyed.
This is Peter’s first talk for the Newport Astronomy Club, he is a little nervous but keen to share his knowledge and get to meet more people, so please join if you can.
Details: Tuesday, 12th November at 8 pm in Hotel Newport
