Andrea Parisi

Dr Andrea Parisi is an ecologist and researcher whose work focuses on the conservation of one of Ireland’s most distinctive and endangered birds – the corncrake.

Working with Atlantic Technological University and the Corncrake LIFE project, Andrea has explored innovative ways of monitoring corncrakes and understanding their behaviour without disturbing them. His research uses bioacoustics – recording and analysing the birds’ distinctive calls – alongside thermal imaging from drones to help locate and monitor these elusive birds in their breeding grounds.

Andrea’s fieldwork across Mayo, Galway and Donegal has also explored corncrake movements, habitat use and even differences in calls between Irish populations. His research demonstrates how new technologies can provide valuable insights to support conservation and biodiversity.

With a wider interest in soundscape ecology, Andrea’s work reveals how listening carefully to our landscapes can help us understand their wildlife, measure biodiversity and ultimately protect some of our most vulnerable species.
