About Mary Gavaghan

Mary Gavaghan is an Education Guide at Wild Nephin National Park, based at the Ballycroy Visitor Centre. Through guided walks, talks and educational activities, Mary helps visitors discover the remarkable landscapes, wildlife and natural heritage of one of Ireland’s wildest national parks.

Her work explores the rich biodiversity of Wild Nephin, from its internationally important blanket bog and mountain habitats to the wildlife that depends upon them. She also has a particular interest in helping people understand the connections between nature, local culture and the landscape, as well as the importance of protecting the natural darkness of the park for nocturnal wildlife.

A knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide, Mary brings the landscape to life for visitors, encouraging people to look more closely, listen and discover the stories hidden within this very special part of Mayo.
