Bettymaya Foott

Bettymaya Foott is a lighting designer, dark-sky advocate, and astrophotographer. She holds an Honors Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Sustainability Studies from the University of Utah and a Master of Science in Architectural Lighting Design from KTH Royal Institute of Technology. She has more than a decade of experience in dark-sky conservation and community engagement. Her career has included launching 12 Dark Sky Park applications with Utah State Parks, advancing regional conservation through the Colorado Plateau Dark Sky Cooperative, helping establish the Consortium for Dark Sky Studies, and more than eight years with DarkSky International.

A member of The World at Night, Bettymaya uses astrophotography to communicate the beauty and value of darkness. Her work has appeared in National Geographic, Sky & Telescope, and the Los Angeles Times, and she has shared her advocacy on the TEDx stage. She is now an Assistant Designer at Dark Source, combining lighting design with environmental stewardship.
